Songstress.
Singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and genre-bending performance artist Devon More's alternative pop rock songs feature infectious melodies, insightful lyrics, and a symphonic sensibility. Her solo album, Sky Is Falling, arrived on the unlikely date of February 29th(!) 2024 - to transmute your agony during these complicated times.
With roots in classical music and theatre, Devon honed her artistic priorities and riot grrrl politics during four transformative punk rock years in Berlin, Germany. She now lives on the traditional, ancestral, stolen territory of the Coast Salish First Nations in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Longtime frontwoman for East Van punk pop power trio Hang Lucy, Devon ultimately gained renown for her original one-woman cabarets, earning critical acclaim on stages across Canada for her musical storytelling and lush layering of hypnotic live-looped soundscapes using electric guitar, flute, and a curious arsenal of noisemakers.
Musing on themes of wanderlust, revolution, and love, Devon’s storyful songs draw from her own unique life experience as a globetrotter, polyglot (Dutch, German, English), and Traumatic Brain Injury survivor.
After fracturing her skull in her early 20s, Devon experienced a years-long ‘altered state of consciousness’ that she credits as being foundational to her genesis as a songwriter:
“I was literally lost in my own mind - unable to make sense what had happened or the world around me. Writing songs helped me hang onto reality.”
Devon grew up in Kamloops, BC on ʃəˈhwɛpəm (Secwépemc) territory, and now lives and works as a mindful guest on the traditional, ancestral and unceded Coast Salish territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), səl̓ilwətaɁɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), & qiqéyt (Qayqayt) First Nations.
