‘And I just cannot wait till October…’

Jumping Back and Forth with Devon More

Canadian Theatre Critics Association member and cross-country arts blogger Rodrigo Flores of Joyful Magpies distills my year thus far…

This past winter, while spending the ski season in my hometown of Kamloops, I had a chance to catch up with Rodrigo.

Rodrigo and I first met when I was premiering Berlin Waltz at the 2015 Calgary Fringe Festival (an appearance that led me to secure a Best Creative Concept nomination at Calgary’s 2016 Theatre Critic Awards). When Rodrigo subsequently published his blog piece on Berlin Waltz, it was one of those rare times when I felt like an interviewer had actually translated me accurately..! So,

When Rodrigo approached me about doing a follow-up blog post on what Devon More Music was up to these days, I was eager…! and also/conveniently in the misty midst of expanding my online platform.

We had a wonderful phone interview in January -

And then 2020 began to unfold - and unravel…

Nothing was relevant anymore, seemingly…

Yet we connected again during the middle of my 50-day-long live-streaming music marathon, when my hometown layover was being forcibly extended into spring by the original coronavirus lockdown:

When your own words surprise you…

After tuning into my summer web concert with Surrey Civic Arts, Rodrigo capped off the first wave of this “new normal” by making sense of what has been an eventful and philosophical year.

Enjoy the read! It’s a very unique feature piece, built upon the lyrics to one of my ‘quarantunes’:
